How does the instrument rental program work?

This is a rent-to-own program through Music and Arts stores. All of your rental payments will be applied to the purchase of the instrument if you choose to buy it or you may return the instrument at any time if your child decides to stop playing.

Can I purchase the instrument and not rent it?

Yes. We offer a 30% discount on the purchase price of each instrument (see below) if you choose to purchase the instrument rather than rent it.

How do I go about renting an instrument?

You must come to Maryland Hall, Room 208 to rent an instrument. At that time, you will need a driver’s license and a major credit card and must complete a rental agreement. You must pay the down payment on the instrument (see amounts below) at the time the rental agreement is signed. You may also have to pay a security deposit on the instrument or agree to have Music and Arts conduct a credit check if you choose to pay by check or cash rather than credit card.

How much does each instrument cost?

The approximate rental costs of each instrument are below:

flute / clarinet / trumpet / trombone / drum kit / violin / viola:
$15.95 down payment (for the first three months)
$25.95 per month
$ 5.50 per month OPTIONAL Liability Damage Waiver (LDW) insurance
(Purchase prices for these instruments range from $450-$900)

alto saxophone:
$39.95 down payment (for the first three months)
$39.95 per month
$ 7.00 per month OPTIONAL LDW insurance
(Purchase prices of this instrument is between $1200-$1300)

cello:
$39.95 down payment (for the first three months)
$39.95 per month
$10.00 per month OPTIONAL LDW insurance
(Purchase price for this instrument is between $1000-$1500)

What is the Liability Damage Waiver (insurance)?

If you choose to accept the Liability Damage Waiver insurance, it will cover any further responsibility to the instrument if it is lost, damaged or stolen due to burglary or fire. It also covers all repairs except normal wear and tear. The LDW is only offered when the rental contract is initiated and CANNOT be added later.

Isn’t my instrument covered by my homeowners insurance?

Most homeowner’s policies do not cover instruments, let alone a rental instrument. The LDW waiver will also protect the instrument while outside of your home and cover repairs.

Can I purchase the instrument after renting?

Yes. At any time after the initial rental payment, you may exercise an early purchase option by paying the purchase price minus the total of rental payments made minus a 30% discount plus any applicable sales tax. LDW does not apply toward the early purchase option.

Do you have the book my child needs?

We have a limited supply of books but we can check for you.

What other items do you carry at Maryland Hall?

We have Rico brand reeds for both the clarinet ($3.95/pack) and the alto sax ($5.95/pack).

What sort of payment do you accept?

You can pay by cash, check, VISA, MasterCard, Discover or American Express

Where are you located and what are your hours?

We are in room 208 at Maryland Hall, which is the main office. Our address is 801 Chase Street, Annapolis, MD 21401. Our hours are Monday through Friday, 9 am to 5 pm. We are closed when the Anne Arundel County Schools are closed. Please check the Maryland Hall web site if you are unsure if we are open on a holiday.
